National Highway Institute Awards for ORC Training Instructors

The National Highway Institute (NHI) recently recognized Ted Pluta, Bob Merryman, Lisa Barnes and Bob Kleinburd as Instructors of Excellence for fiscal year (FY) 2011. Ted Pluta has received this award 5 consecutive years since FY 2007, Bob Merryman and Lisa Barnes have been acknowledged in multiple years, and Bob Kleinburd was recognized in his first year as a Certified NHI Instructor.

The Instructors of Excellence Award recognizes exemplary service and dedication to providing high quality instruction of critical training to the transportation workforce. To earn this distinction, instructors must be nominated by a training program manager, consistently achieve an average satisfaction ranking of 4.5 or above (on a 5-point scale), have successfully completed the NHI Instructor Development Course, achieved or be in the process of achieving NHI Instructor Certification, and teach at least two sessions during the fiscal year.

This award demonstrates the recipient’s exemplary skill in instruction, a commitment to NHI’s adult learning philosophy, and the ability to share real-world experience in the classroom. NHI has more than 500 instructors and presented 74 Instructors of Excellence Awards in FY 2011.

FTA’s Real Estate Acquisition Management Plan (RAMP)

A Real Estate Acquisition Management Plan is termed a “RAMP” by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). It is a written document that details how a grantee (usually a local public agency) will administer the land acquisition program. The document is written by the local agency and must be approved by FTA before any acquisition work may begin. It must lay out in detail how the schedule will be accomplished and any anticipated issues that may arise during the process. If relocation is a probability, it must also be discussed.

NHI Course Developed by ORC Featured in FHWA Public Roads Magazine

ORC Training’s new NHI Course, Introduction to Right of Way for Local Public Agencies, has been a huge success since its launch in 2011. ORC Training Offers New Course

ORC Training Land Acquisition for Airports Course

No Federal funds if you do not comply with the Uniform Act! So how do smaller airports learn the steps necessary to comply with the Act?

ORC Training recently developed and delivered a new two-day instructor-led training course – Land Acquisition for Airports – The Basics. This course is targeted at airport employees responsible for land acquisition under the Uniform Act and FAA regulations, as well as those persons responsible for oversight of those activities. The South Carolina Aeronautics Commission hosted the course in Columbia, SC, which was instructed by Bob Merryman, a national expert in federal land acquisition policies and FAA policies, on August 28-29.
