Charlotte, NC – O. R. Colan Associates, LLC, (ORC), one of the nation’s oldest firms specializing in land acquisition, relocation, and program management for infrastructure projects, is excited to announce Steve Chastain as recipient of the International Right of Way (IRWA) Region 6 and Chapter 31, Professional of the Year Award. Presented during the virtual Regional Forum, the IRWA bases the award on chapter involvement and specific professional accomplishments.
Education and Military: While pursuing his B.S. from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Mr. Chastain served eight years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps, exiting with the rank of sergeant and as recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding professional service.
Right-of-Way Expertise: Mr. Chastain has worked as a right-of-way agent and supervisor on projects around the nation, serving as both manager and executive with two of the nation’s finest right-of-way firms. In 2016, ORC selected Mr. Chastain as a Regional Vice President and, more recently, as a Regional Sales Manager. Holding broker’s licenses in NC and FL, Mr. Chastain has worked in fiber, rail, natural gas, electric, highway, aviation, local public agencies, renewables, and gas storage. His deep expertise working on projects touching 28 of the 48 states in the continental U.S. affords him a broad insight into our industry and its intricacies.
IRWA Affiliations: Mr. Chastain served on the IRWA International Oil and Gas Pipeline Committee and actively serves on the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL). Mr. Chastain has published numerous articles in the IRWA Right of Way and Landman Magazines and has received the Mark A. Green Award for Excellence. In 2019, Mr. Chastain earned his IRWA certification as a CLIMB instructor.
IRWA Chapter 31 Promotion: Currently Vice President of his local IRWA Chapter 31, Mr. Chastain also has served as the Chapter’s PDC Chair and Treasurer. In recent years, Mr. Chastain has diligently coordinated with Chapter 31, reaching out to private and public sector industry professionals, to promote the local chapter and the IRWA as one of the nation’s finest professional organizations. Chapter 31 is unique in that it maintains top active and cooperating representatives from right-of-way, appraisal, law, engineering, and survey.
Ministry and Mission Work: Outside of work, Mr. Chastain is an ordained Baptist minister, holding a Master of Ministry degree and serving as Treasurer on the board of an international non-profit. Each year, Mr. Chastain travels to Honduras to work hands-on at the New Life Children’s Home in Jalaca.
