COLUMBUS, OH - In a demonstration of commitment to expanding its presence in the energy sector, O. R. Colan Associates (ORC) has hired a full-time Utility and Infrastructure (ORC U&I) Division Director and added several experienced agents to their Columbus, OH office.
ORC was recently awarded two task order projects by American Electric Power: The Barnesville – Summerfield 69kv Rebuild (16 miles) in Barnesville, OH and the Glencoe - Speidel 69kv Rebuild (13 miles) in Speidel, OH. Both projects entail upgrading current transmission lines from 69kv to 138kv to increase grid reliability, specifically for the expanding gas and oil shale industry in Southeast Ohio.
As part of AEP’s community outreach efforts, ORC will assist the energy provider with a series of public information open houses, beginning in November 2014 and continuing into 2015.
“Transmission line work is vitally important to ORC’s long-term vision,” says U&I Director Richie McNally. “These new relationships will allow us to really establish ourselves as a major land acquisition player in the energy sector.”
When asked about additional growth forecasts, McNally explained, “We anticipate a lot of growth nationally. Obviously, infrastructure is expanding everywhere, and it is largely reliant on the power grid. But the gas and oil shale boom in Eastern Ohio – and the industry that is driving it - is really opening that market up for real estate service providers like ORC.”
ORC was also awarded a master services contract by Vectren Energy, a regional natural gas provider. ORC is presently providing acquisition services for the Tipp City MIA – CR25A in Piqua, OH, a project that requires acquisition of additional easements to relocate a 0.7 mile natural gas pipeline.
Catherine Colan Muth, CEO of ORC U&I states that “Our legacy company was created to assist state highway departments in buying right of way for our Interstate Highway System. The Interstate Transportation System of this decade is for Energy. ORC U&I was created to serve the needs of this new Interstate Transportation System.”
ORC Utility and Infrastructure Land Services, LLC is a wholly and privately owned member of O. R. Colan Associates, LLC (ORC), headquartered in Charlotte, NC. ORC has operated nationally since 1969 (45 years) and is recognized as a leader in the field of real estate and right-of-way (ROW) acquisition and related services for public agencies and private clients. ORC specializes in projects implemented under the provisions of the Uniform Relocation and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970. ORC has provided ROW and land services to important utility clients for many years and believes there will be historic levels of investment and growth in this sector for decades, spurred by significant changes in energy technology and related investments in infrastructure.
