ORC was selected as part of the design-build team of Blythe–Zachry for the reconstruction of I-85 in South Carolina. The purpose of this project – the second largest infrastructure improvement project in South Carolina – was to improve operational efficiency, accommodate future traffic volumes, correct geometric deficiencies, and improve existing pavement along the Interstate 85 corridor. This also includes replacement of CSXT Railroad Bridge and correcting geometric deficiencies at several interchanges and overpasses.
The project reconstructed 3 miles of the six-lane existing roadway in Spartanburg County, and it widened an additional 18 miles of existing roadway, from four lanes to six lanes, in both Spartanburg & Cherokee County.
ORC was responsible for conducting all right-of-way and real estate acquisition services on the project. The overall project required the acquisition of approximately 323 parcels and the relocation of more than 50 residents, businesses and billboards.
